A great example of a dominant thought becoming a reality is planning my daughter’s family’s summer vacation.
Dawn’s husband, John is a homebody.
Dawn and John both work remotely from their home. They keep busy with their home, two daughters, Dot, the family dog, and an assortment of family pets.
Like for many families, time passes quickly when the children are out of school. Over the years, summer vacation at most public schools has morphed to only about two months! In addition, of course, the pandemic put a damper on taking vacations away from home, so many “vacations” have been “staycations”, close to home.
This year (and last year), their daughters, Kara and Minerva, have been begging to go to Hawaii.
I really want to see them have this dream. So when the school year ended, I encouraged Dawn and John to start planning their family vacation. Before we know it, school will starting again!
Dawn initially said she was too exhausted to think about it, and John was busy with his work.
I said I’d send some suggestions.
I looked online and found some websites for activities and timeshare rentals on Oahu, plus Expedia and Kayak for booking a flight or possibly package deals for flight, room and car.
Dawn and John decided they want to go to the Big Island, where they went on their honeymoon, and John arranged his vacation days with his employer. (Note — This was the critical event for making this vacation happen.) (Dawn works with me part-time, so her schedule isn’t a problem.)
Kara, who is seventeen, did her own online research and made a slide show of possible sights to see on the Big Island, to share with the family. She said she really wants to see Manta Rays.
My wife, Janet, said we had a great experience viewing Manta Rays at a Big Island hotel many years ago.
I recalled that the hotel had been closed the last time we visited the Big Island, and said I’d check it out.
When Janet and I got home, I found some web pages for activities and vacation home rentals on Big Island, and sent them, together with information for a rental vacation home owned by a former client, to Dawn.
I also found out the hotel where we viewed Manta Rays has reopened. It’s now the Outrigger Kona Resort & Spa.
It looks like Dawn’s family is going to have a great Big Island, Hawaii vacation.
This experience is an example of the power of a Dominant Thought. When we have a goal that we really desire, we devote a lot of thought and energy into making it happen, and it often does.
We can apply the same principle for business goals, but planning a vacation really is fun!
