Laura Belgray was a late bloomer.

She didn't connect with her gift as a writer until her mid twenties. She got an internship copying research and writing articles for Spy magazine, and then she fell into a job writing promotional spots for old television shows, like The Munsters, Dragnet and Bewitched for Nickelodeon. (She loved binge watching them, so it was a natural.)

After she was terminated because of a change of ownership of the network, Laura became successful with a variety of promotional writing projects, including building her own email-based business.

Laura attracts and keeps her email subscribers with the authentic style that she used to write this autobiographical book, Tough Titties.

The book is worth studying for her graphic, outrageous personal stories and the insights it provides into how one woman thinks. Many other women might share Laura's insecurities and difficulties growing up to finally find a successful, happy marriage (with no kids) and a profitable, independent career.

If you are offended by graphic language, this probably isn't the book for you. On the other hand, is this the way your daughter talks after she walks around the corner?

Laura is an attractive woman. She has worked very hard to keep slim, including running eleven miles daily, doing aerobics at the gym, rabid salsa dancing, avoiding sweets, and avoiding excessive drinking. Still, she's insecure that she doesn't have a flat stomach. Her hair won't hold curls. She has a large bust for which she has had three reductions and it just grows back.

She's a terrible vehicle driver. Being her passenger is like being on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride at Disneyland. Her husband regularly offers to drive, so she doesn't have to.

Despite being a brilliant student in high school and college, she wasn't very motivated in finding employment. She took a bartending course at Columbia University and never found a long-term bartending job. While looking for work in bars, she would hang out in them until the wee hours, drinking diet Cokes and then sleep in until after noon.

Laura found relationships with men difficult and dysfunctional. Although she insisted on using protection, she was rather promiscuous, mostly engaging in oral sex. She had a long-term affair with her married salsa dance instructor. (His wife taught classes in the same studio!)

Her Jewish upper middle-class parents continued to encourage her to find a steady job and a more stable relationship. Thankfully, she did meet the man of her dreams and achieve career success.

If her story didn't have a happy ending, this book might not have been written. Meanwhile, we readers can benefit by studying how she shares her life adventures.
